SiliCycle has developed a new look and a new brand for our Metal Scavengers. These products, known as SiliaBond Metal Scavengers (i.e.: SiliaBond Thiol), are now named SiliaMetS. (ex: SiliaMetS Thiol) with a new color code. We wanted to update our branding to give more visibility to these products used to remove metals. This new branding will help differentiate these products from other functionalized silica gels available (reagents and bonded phases) and facilitate access to all documentation related to Metal Scavenging through our new website.
Although we changed our branding from SiliaBond Metal scavengers to SiliaMetS, no change has been made to the product themselves; you will still be purchasing the same quality products that you have been enjoying for years.

In recent years, the time pressure associated with quickly bringing candidate drugs to market has increased the number of transition metal-catalyzed reactions being transferred from lead optimization to early scale-up. The removal of post-reactions metal residues has become a major issue in the pharmaceutical industry. Purification of APIs from residual metal catalyst by traditional methods (chromatography, activated carbon, distillation, etc.) often leads to problems such as high costs, time loss, low efficiency, and reduced API yields. To overcome these limitations, SiliCycle has developed SiliaMetS Metal Scavengers, a range of products that have significantly changed how chemists can purify APIs.

For many years, SiliaMetS Metal Scavengers are used on pilot plan by GMP pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and fine chemical industries as well as contract research and manufacturing organizations. They have run their own analysis proving SiliaMetS Metal Scavengers can safely be used without compromising the purity of the material by leaching of the silica-supported product.
Thus, SiliCycle is committed to high quality standards and always wants to provide default free products. In doing so, all products are manufactured in an ISO9001:2008 compliant facility and submitted to a stringent quality control. What are SiliaMetS Metal Scavengers?

To be effective, the Metal Scavengers need the ability and inherent functionality to remove metals in their various oxidation states from the reaction mixture. For example, upon completion of a palladium metal-catalyzed reaction, the metal residue contained in the reaction can exist in both Pd (0) and Pd (II). |

SiliaMetS® Thiol (Si-Thiol) is a robust metal scavenger for a variety of metals including Pd, Pt, Cu, Ag and Pb under a wide range of conditions. It has been used in pharmaceutical processes up to the pilot plant scale. It is our most versatile metal scavenger and is the preferred metal scavenger for Pd(II), Cu, Ag, and Hg.

SiliaMetS® Thiourea (Si-THU) is a versatile metal scavenger for all forms of palladium and is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry. It works particularly well in organic solvents. It can also be used to scavenge Ag, Pt, Ru, Rh and Hg. Once complexed with a transition metal, it has been reported as being an effective catalyst.

SiliaMetS® Cysteine
SiliaMetS® Cysteine (Si-Cys) is the silica bound equivalent of the amino acid Cysteine. By attaching the molecule to the backbone via the amino group, the thiol group remains free and accessible for higher metal scavenging efficiency. It is a versatile metal scavenger for a variety of metals including Pd, Sn, Ru, Pt, Cu, Rh, Cd and Sc under a wide range of conditions and the preferred metal scavenger for tin residues.

SiliaMetS® Dimercaptotriazine (DMT)
SiliaMetS® DMT (Si-DMT) is the silica bound equivalent of 2,4,6-trimercaptotriazine (trithiocyanuric acid). It is a versatile metal scavenger for a variety of metals including Cd, Co, Ni, Pd, Pt, Rh, and Ru under a wide range of conditions and the preferred metal scavenger for ruthenium catalysts.
TMT has been reported to efficiently remove palladium and heavy metals by precipitation. Unfortunately, its solubility in organic solvents causes problem. SiliaMetS DMT solves this issue and almost all solvents can now be used.

SiliaBond® Amine (Si-NH2) is an effective scavenger of acid chlorides, sulfonyl chlorides, isocyanates and other electrophiles. Si-NH2 has been shown to be effective metal scavenger and catalyst for Knoevenagel reactions. SiliaBond Amine is also used in chromatography as normal phase sorbent.
