SiliaBond®- Scavengers
SiliCycle offers a wide range of scavengers to simplify your purifications.
Scavengers are functionalized silica gels designed to react and bind excess reagents, metal complexes and/or by-products.More Information
The process for using scavengers is outlined in the scheme shown below. In the case of batch processing, the scavenger is added to the reaction mixture after completion. The process relies on chemically driven reactions where the excess reagents and reaction by-products react with and bind to the scavenger. The solution, which now only contains the product of interest, is separated from the silica bound impurities by filtration.
For flow through processing, the scavenger is packed into a column and the reaction mixture is passed through the column until complete scavenging is obtained.

SiliCycle Available Scavengers:
-
SiliaBond® Tosic Acid nec (SCX)
SiliaBond® Tosic Acid (SiliaBond SCX, Si-TsOH) is a versatile bound strong acid with a pka <<1. It is widely used for the scavenging of amines and other basic functionalities, including weakly basic anilines, borohydrides, and metals such as Ni and Ag. It can also be used as an acid catalyst for organic reactions.6 Si-TsOH can serve as an alternative method to quench reactions instead of aqueous or organic soluble acids.
-
SiliaPrep™ SPE Cartridges Amine nec (WAX)
SiliaPrep Amine nec is a weak anion exchanger sorbent used in replacement of SAX for strong anions to avoid irreversible retention. Can also be employed as a metal scavenger and norman phase conditions.
-
SiliaPrep™ SPE Cartridges Tosic Acid nec (SCX)
SiliaPrep Tosic Acid is a strong cation exchanger and maintains a negative charge throughtout the pH scale. The most common use is a strong cation exchanger for the amine and basics molecules "catch and release" purification technique in SPE cartridges.
-
SiliaPrep™ 96 Well Plates Tosic Acid nec (SCX)
Standard SiliaPrep 96 Well Plates are available in 2 mL with different bed weight up to 200 mg. Various sorbents are available and are divided into several sections based on sorbent characteristics.
