What is the molecular loading and how do you determine the molecular loading of a SiliaMetS metal scavenger?

> back to the scavengers FAQ page

The molecular loading (in mmol/g) refers to the number functions present on the silica gel in mmol (of active functions) per g of SiliaMetS scavengers. Most of these calculations are based on the sulfur or carbon content which is measured by elemental analysis (CHN). Elemental analysis is a well-known technique for determining the amount of carbon, nitrogen and sulfur in a sample. SiliCycle’s scavengers have a typical molecular loading between 0.3 - 1.3 mmol/g depending on the functionalized silica.
