Urine Sample Preparation for Analysis of Terbutaline Enantiomers

A racemic mixture of terbutaline (TER), a selective β2-agonist used as bronchodilator, contains equal ratios of its eutomer (R) and distomer (S). As recommended by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the different enantiomers of chirally active compounds should be determined.
Hanafi and Parr's groups used Design of Experiments from the Quality by Design framework to determine the influencing factors and interactions leading to successful enantioseparation of TER and its monosulfate conjugate pairs (SULF) in urine samples using Supercritical Fluid Chromatography (SFC).
